Black History Mind Spray

Once again Black History Month is upon us and even though all of us have many different opinions on the subject the one thing that can't be disputed is it is still very important to acknowledge the part people of African descent has played in the formation of the world but to celebrate as well. As a people that are many acheivements that have been acredited to us and many that should have been but haven't. However it would be a travesty on our part if we didn't learn this information and then teach. That's what culture is all about. If a people has no culture, then they have no traditions. If a people have no culture or traditions then they have no legacy to leave for their children to teach their children. Black History is more than slavery, more than the Civil Rights Marches, not to say that they weren't important because they were. No, what I'm proposing is learn more about the struggles and triumphs of people they don't teach in the school curriculums or colleges.

Find out about someone, do some research and add the knowledge to what you already know, and then teach someone else. That's what culture is all about. Sharing the information, the circumstances, the disappointments, the triumphs of a people that for all intents and purposes could have been long extinguished because it is in us to not only strive but thrive we continue to press on despite all that has happened us and is still happening. Celebrate the legacy of "OUR" forefathers and Queen Mothers who often made the ultimate sacrifice so that you and can do and be what we are today. Never forget because to forget is to die a cultural, ancestral, mental and spiritual death. Peace and Blessings to all the elders and ancestors upon whose shoulders we stand upon today. What are your thoughts or comments about Black History Month?
