Thought of The Day - Would Our Ancestors Be Proud?

Even with all the strides and progress we have made as a people, the question remains: Would our ancestors be proud? As a community we have often surpassed insurmountable odds, climbed over, run around, walked through countless obstacles to be in the position we are in today. Yes, we sent our children to college in a country that didn't even want us to know how to read. And yes our women have made contributions and brought forth greatness in the same land that they were raped and mutilated because a certain group of people felt like the had the right to do it.

However, even with all the success we've had there seems to be a very unsettling trend that is moving us blackwards at an alarming rate. In this day it the trend has become to not build up the community, or it's inhabitants. Instead, self destruction, self deprivation, addiction, abuse, alcoholism are running so rampant that it has become the norm as oppose to the exception. Self hatred has manifested and brought about an energy that perpetuates hatred of each other which further perpetuates the destruction of the very people you should love and protect at any cost. So if I have to answer the question, then I would have to say no, our ancestors are not pleased. In fact, I bet that their spirits exist in a very grievous state of misery because of the way things are today.

All of their sacrifices, giving up of their own lives in hopes that ours would be better. No, I don't think our ancestors would be happy with the treatment we extend towards each other, because they knew once they were brought over here they became each others new tribe and had to depend on each other. No I don't think that our ancestors would be pleased, question is what do you think?

  1. I think are ancestors are proud but disappointed. We must do better as a people to honor them with our lives instead of simply honoring them in death. I appreciate your concern. Awareness is the first step to change
