Mind Spray Of The Day- Brotherhood

Brotherhood, what is brotherhood. Depending who you ask the answer may vary from person to person. The concept of brotherhood as it was in the 60's and in this millenium has shifted greatly. It was nothing to call another blackman you had never seen before to call him brotha or shake his and engage him in conversation. Today, when we see each other the only thing that comes to mind in most cases is trying not to get hurt or hurting that man. So what happene? How did the concept of brotherhood just shift so drastically from embracing your brother to hating him?

It's easy to talk about the outside forces, the psychosocial, socioeconomic disparities and all of the things that affect us a men. However, the bottomline is even with all those things going on we have consciously choosen to not only participate in the erosion of our brotherhood, but we made an even bigger mistake. We allowed someone outside of us to tell us that we weren't anything, that we are most dangerous to and for each other and that we are our own worst enemies. Once we started believing this, it open the door to everything else that has befalled us.

So how do we get back to how things use to be? First know and understand that we as men are responsible for ourselves and the well being of each other. There is no way a village will ever stand if the men in the village are not unified. I'm not saying that we won't have different methods, ideals, thought patterns or schools of thought. No, what I am saying is that despite those differences we still need to band together for the survival and upliftment of our community. It makes no sense to me to rehash what is wrong because we already know what alils us. We need to fix it, we need to take back to when we showed each other love, instead of animosity. Cared about each other and their families, not covet what you have and take it by any means necessary. We need to remember that no matter what I am Still My Brother's Keeper.

  2. Amen to that. Seems that no matter what country you look at, ethnic groups are in conflict. But the worse part about it is the endless infighting among people of basically the same creed or race. I forgot where I recently read it but they were basically saying how Jews and Palestinian are both Semitic peoples, which makes Israel the biggest anti-Semitic state in the whole world!

Western democracy is faltering, I believe the time is nigh for what I like to call: "The Tribal Progressive". Here's to greater peace and goodwill among men!
