Guest Blog by @only1divadee Barak Obama- Politcs As Usual?

January 2, 2009 America’s 1st Black president was sworn into office. Americans voted that a change was needed and President Barrack Obama was the right man to provide it. After 18 months in office, he made major improvements to bring our country out of a recession spiraling out of control. One which financial analysts agreed could soon lead to a depression if not properly addressed.

Since the man with the unique name took office, the country went from being a unified front for change to racially divided by political parties. The amount of blatant racism and disrespect that Mr. President continuously receives by reporters, news analyst, and opposing government officials is baffling. As a thirty-something black woman, I have never witnessed anything so disheartening in my adult life.

I’m not naive to think that racism was banished after the civil rights movement. I truly understand that it went from being a normal acceptance to a silent whisper. However, I did expect more from a body of people that are seeing a glimmer of hope with unemployment, financial stress, and medical coverage. The bipartisanship created as a result of the 2010 mid-term elections, will only stagnate President Obama’s efforts to move legislation forward beneficial for all Americans. In my view, it seems that ignorant Americans voted against President Obama’s skin color without understanding his values and “for the people” mind-set.

The Obama administration’s Health Care proposal has been labeled as a socialistic policy creating a negative buzz word for Americans who truly don’t understand the meaning. However, when viewed in detail it is apparent that healthcare reform will benefit everyone if implemented properly. This proposal along with others, demonstrate the true integrity of a politician without a hidden agenda.

As humans, it is imperative that we put color aside to truly understand one’s character. Allowing others to prove themselves as respectable, concerned humans is more productive then deciding they have nothing positive to contribute because of their skin color. Why can’t our human-race create a unity amongst Americans instead of allowing our ethnicity to tear us apart?

I pray the man born to a Nairobian father and White mother can overcome the racial thrashing that misinformed Americans continue to spew at him. I hope President Obama can look past their ignorance and focus on what’s important, putting his best effort forward to give every American a chance at success! I will continue to support Barrack Obama as my President, can you?
