Guest Blog Post: When Will We by @CharmingJerk

When Will We

When will we stop judging one another and start loving one another

Fathers, daughters, sisters, sons, brothers, and mothers

When will we start teaching our youth

Instead of fairy tales of Santa Claus and Tooth Fairies, start teaching them truth

We let religion persuade our decisions but all it's caused was division

Eyes wide open, but we are blind to reality and the vision

It takes a village to raise a child. Yet, fathers are missing from the homes

Mothers are getting younger by the year, just another sad poem

Pills are the new crack and the Internet is the new train tracks

We've been derailed for so long, when will we ever get back

Hidden agendas have been enacted since before we were here

Still, the power is in our minds, so no evil we shall fear

When will we start building foundations and destroying negative habits

Neutralizing our gifts and talents, we're just that old silly rabbit

Still dealing with tricks as if we can get far with a bowl of them

When will we recapture of minds and get back control of them

When will we

When will

When

What will it take for us to get back to our original minds? They say that everything happens for a reason. Well, what was the reason for the design of the enslavement of the black mind? How was it able to take into effect? How long will it last? Ponder on this for a moment; does it even exist? We as a people, Africans in America, have been misguided, mislead, miscommunicated, misinformed, and just been plain missing from the trails that our beloved ancestors created for us.

Was it greed that put us into this predicament centuries ago? Was it naivety that allowed us to put our guards down? How is that a people who created extraordinary civilizations, way before Rome, were able to be swindled so easily? When will we start taking responsibility for our thoughts and start taking accountability for our brothers and sisters? We've come so far, but we've really been going nowhere. Have we failed as a people? If we were to assess ourselves on a grand scale, what grade would we place upon our charts? What grade would you give yourself?

It's time that we start cooperating with each other. It's time for the youth and the elders to start learning from one another. It's time for the educated and uneducated to start discussing ideas. It's time for us to acknowledge our problems, focus on solutions, and actually enable these answers. If not know, when?
