Mind Spray of the Day- Spoken Words

Words, no matter we are on the planet we use them. Some of us, like myself are poets, writers and have an ongoing love affair with expression, phrases and constructing wicked sentence structure to paint verbal pictures that give an accurate depiction of what we are thinking. But as I reflect back I have to look at the griots of many Africans villages who were charged with no only telling stories of the traditions of that people but maintain the history of that tribe and then through stories and or songs be able to relate that to the younger generations.

Even when our ancestors were brought here the tradition continues. European history would have you believe that the sounds that were coming from the fields that our people toiled in were old Negro spirituals, and maybe as time went on they were, but in the beginning you often heard the supplications of our people to their Yoruban deities, our even the supplications of those elders reciting the Qur'an as a way to hold onto their belief system. Yes, most of the first slaves were Muslims, so don't be surprised.

Anyway, words have always been something that we relied upon to send messages that we didn't want the slave masters to know or a way to communicate with each other. Verbal mastery has been something that we've been doing from the beginning of time and yet we have no respect for them or their power today. The energy contained in words can change and alter the direction of live whether positive or negative. Be careful how you use them.

  2. I agree with this. The words you choose to use to express yourself can be just as powerful as the actions you take. Great post!
